Setting Up WeatherFlow Tempest

This guide will help you connect your WeatherFlow Tempest Weather System to SmartMixin.

About Tempest

The WeatherFlow Tempest is an advanced weather system with a built-in anemometer, rain gauge, and haptic rain sensor, all in a single compact unit with no moving parts.

Prerequisites

  • A WeatherFlow Tempest station connected to the WeatherFlow app
  • Your WeatherFlow API Token

Getting Your API Token

  1. Log in to tempestwx.com
  2. Go to your account settings
  3. Navigate to Data Authorizations or API
  4. Create a new Personal Use Token
  5. Copy the token for use in SmartMixin

Connection Steps

  1. Go to Settings > Services > WeatherFlow
  2. Click Connect
  3. Enter your API Token
  4. Click Save
  5. Your stations will be automatically detected

Available Data

WeatherFlow Tempest provides:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Barometric pressure
  • Wind speed and direction
  • Wind gust and lull
  • Rain accumulation (haptic rain sensor)
  • UV index
  • Solar radiation
  • Lightning strike count and distance
  • Brightness (lux)

Unique Features

The Tempest has several unique capabilities:

  • Haptic Rain Sensor: Detects rain without a traditional tipping bucket
  • Lightning Detection: Counts strikes and estimates distance
  • No Moving Parts: Built-in sonic anemometer for reliable wind measurements

Troubleshooting

If your station isn't appearing:

  • Verify your API token is correct
  • Ensure your station is online in the WeatherFlow app
  • Check that your station is connected to WiFi
  • Verify the token has the correct permissions
