Setting Up WeatherFlow Tempest
This guide will help you connect your WeatherFlow Tempest Weather System to SmartMixin.
About Tempest
The WeatherFlow Tempest is an advanced weather system with a built-in anemometer, rain gauge, and haptic rain sensor, all in a single compact unit with no moving parts.
Prerequisites
- A WeatherFlow Tempest station connected to the WeatherFlow app
- Your WeatherFlow API Token
Getting Your API Token
- Log in to tempestwx.com
- Go to your account settings
- Navigate to Data Authorizations or API
- Create a new Personal Use Token
- Copy the token for use in SmartMixin
Connection Steps
- Go to Settings > Services > WeatherFlow
- Click Connect
- Enter your API Token
- Click Save
- Your stations will be automatically detected

WeatherFlow Tempest provides:
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Barometric pressure
- Wind speed and direction
- Wind gust and lull
- Rain accumulation (haptic rain sensor)
- UV index
- Solar radiation
- Lightning strike count and distance
- Brightness (lux)

The Tempest has several unique capabilities:
- Haptic Rain Sensor: Detects rain without a traditional tipping bucket
- Lightning Detection: Counts strikes and estimates distance
- No Moving Parts: Built-in sonic anemometer for reliable wind measurements
Troubleshooting
If your station isn't appearing:
- Verify your API token is correct
- Ensure your station is online in the WeatherFlow app
- Check that your station is connected to WiFi
- Verify the token has the correct permissions
