Setting Up Weather Underground

This guide will help you connect your Weather Underground Personal Weather Station (PWS) to SmartMixin.

About Weather Underground

Weather Underground is a global community of people connecting data from environmental sensors like weather stations, allowing you to share and access hyperlocal weather data.

Prerequisites

• A weather station uploading data to Weather Underground
• Your Weather Underground API Key
• Your Station ID

Getting Your API Key

1. Log in to wunderground.com
2. Go to your account settings
3. Navigate to API Keys
4. Generate a new API Key if you don't have one
5. Copy the API Key for use in SmartMixin

Finding Your Station ID

1. Go to wunderground.com/member/devices
2. Find your station in the list
3. Your Station ID looks like KSTATECITY123 (US) or ICITYNAME123 (international)
4. Copy the Station ID for use in SmartMixin

Connection Steps

1. Go to Settings > Services > Weather Underground
2. Click Connect
3. Enter your API Key
4. Enter your Station ID
5. Click Save

Available Data

Weather Underground can provide (depending on your station's capabilities):

• Temperature
• Humidity
• Barometric pressure
• Wind speed and direction
• Wind gust
• Rain measurements
• UV index
• Solar radiation
• Dew point

Important Notes

• You must manually enter your Station ID as Weather Underground's API requires it
• Data availability depends on what your station uploads to Weather Underground
• API rate limits may apply depending on your Weather Underground account type

Troubleshooting

If your station data isn't appearing:

• Verify your API Key is correct
• Double-check your Station ID (case-sensitive)
• Ensure your station is actively uploading to Weather Underground
• Check your station's status on wunderground.com

"This API key is already in use"

If you see this error when updating your API key, it means another SmartMixin account is already using it. This typically happens when you have multiple SmartMixin accounts connected to the same Weather Underground API key.

Merging Weather Underground accounts between SmartMixin users is not possible. To resolve this:

1. Go to Settings > Services > Weather Underground
2. Click Disconnect to unlink your current Weather Underground connection
3. Click Connect and enter the API key you want to use along with your Station ID

After reconnecting, both SmartMixin accounts will share the same Weather Underground connection. Your stations and historical data will be preserved.
