Managing Your Sensors
Your weather station may come with many sensors, but you don't always need to see all of them at once. With sensor configuration, you can rename, reorder, and show or hide individual sensors to create a display that works best for you.
What Is Sensor Configuration?
Sensor configuration lets you customize how your weather station's sensors are displayed in SmartMixin. Whether you have multiple temperature probes, soil moisture sensors, or air quality monitors, you can tailor the interface to focus on the data that matters most to you.
How to Access Sensor Configuration
- Open one of your station's sensor chart views (for example, the Temperature sensors view)
- Tap the gear icon in the top-right corner of the chart view
- The sensor configuration panel will open, showing all available sensors for that type
Available Actions
Rename Sensors
Give your sensors meaningful names so you can quickly identify them. For example, rename "Channel 1" to "Garden Sensor" or "Outdoor Temperature" to "Backyard".
- Open the sensor configuration panel
- Tap the current name of the sensor you want to rename
- Enter your preferred name
- Save your changes
Reorder Sensors
Arrange your sensors in the order that makes the most sense to you using drag-and-drop.
- Open the sensor configuration panel
- Press and hold the sensor you want to move
- Drag it to your preferred position
- Release to drop it in place
Show or Hide Sensors
If you have sensors you don't use or don't need to monitor regularly, you can hide them from your views. Hidden sensors continue to collect data -- they simply won't appear in the chart view.
- Open the sensor configuration panel
- Toggle the visibility switch next to each sensor
- Sensors with the toggle turned off will be hidden from the chart view
Note: At least one sensor must remain visible for each sensor type. You cannot hide all sensors of a given type.
Configurable Sensor Types
You can configure the display for the following sensor types:
- Temperature sensors -- indoor, outdoor, and additional temperature probes
- Humidity sensors -- indoor, outdoor, and additional humidity probes
- Soil sensors -- soil temperature, soil moisture and electrical conductivity (EC) probes
- Depth sensors -- laser distance sensors for snow depth and water level
- Leaf wetness sensors -- leaf wetness monitoring probes
- Lightning sensors -- lightning detection sensors
- Air quality (PM2.5) sensors -- particulate matter monitoring sensors
Settings Sync Across Devices
Your sensor configuration is saved per station and syncs automatically across all your devices. Any changes you make on one device will be reflected everywhere you use SmartMixin.
Mobile App vs. Webapp
Sensor configuration is primarily available on the SmartMixin mobile app, where you can rename, reorder, and toggle sensor visibility directly from the chart views.
On the webapp, sensor display is managed through the dashboard customization feature. See Customizing Your Dashboard for more details on how to organize your webapp dashboard.
